The European Union’s RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU – Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is an environmental regulation aiming to limit the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. According to this directive, products placed on the EU market must not exceed established limit values for lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺), PBB, PBDE, and specific phthalate derivatives [DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP].

In order for electronic products to be placed on the EU market, CE marking is mandatory, and RoHS compliance is an integral part of this marking process.
